A detonation gun D comprising a barrel 10, a powder entry tube 12, an ignition chamber 14, and a spark-plug 16 for igniting fuel gases fed through valves 24, 28 in a valve block 18, includes a purging gas valve 32 which passes gas, e.g. nitrogen, over the other valves when they are closed, and is characterized in that the valve 32 is protected from back surge of combustion gases from the barrel by a tube 36. As shown, the tube is connected between the valve 32 and a fuel gas mixing chamber 20, and the valves and ignition circuit are operated in synchronism by cams 44, 46 and 48 driven by a motor 40 such that the valves 24, 28 and the ignition circuit are closed when the valve 32 is open, and vice versa. In an alternative construction, the valve 32 feeds directly into the mixing chamber and the tube 36 is connected between that chamber and the gun barrel. |
