Provided are a method for preparing a negative electrode active material, and a lithium secondary battery containing the negative electrode active material which is excellent in the electron conductivity owing to the carbon net of a carbon sponge and the lithium ion conductivity owing to pore. The method comprises the steps of mixing a halogenated polymer whose H is substituted with F or Cl by all or some part and silicon in a ratio of 5:95 to 50:50 by weight; carbonizing the obtained mixture to allow carbon to be deposited on the surface of silicon; optionally pulverizing the carbon-coated silicon. Preferably the halogenated polymer is polyvinylidene fluoride. Preferably the carbonization is carried out under the inert gas atmosphere and at 900-1,100 deg.C. |
