PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus having a bending optical system, which has a simple structure and contributes to a reduction in the size of a camera main body. SOLUTION: A rack 116 is vertically formed on one end of a lens barrel 20 that has a nesting structure. A pinion 118 is engaged with the rack 116 and thereby power from a motor 120 is transmitted to the pinion 118. To be more specific, when the pinion 118 is rotated counterclockwise from a non-using position that is a stored position, the lens barrel 20 is lengthened upward such that an incident window 104 projects from the upper face of the camera case 12 and located in a using position, which consequently allows photographing. Conversely when the pinion 118 is rotated clockwise from the using position that is a projecting position, the lens barrel 20 is shortened downward such that the incident window 104 is stored in the camera case 12 and located in the non-use position, which consequently inhibits photographing.
