PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To return a lock up clutch into a slip condition quickly when the lock up clutch is unintentionally tightened during slip control. SOLUTION: This slip controller for the torque converter controls tightening force of the lock up clutch like steps (S16 to S19) when slip rotational speed is reduced below a first predetermined value being smaller than target slip rotational speed during control (S4, S8) to let slip rotational speed agree with the target slip rotational speed.
