PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal oxide powder from which a molded sintered compact having a densified surface is easily manufactured, especially a silica powder or an alumina powder, its manufacturing method, a metal oxide sintered compact having an improved smoothness, a resin substrate having improved packing and electrical properties for a multilayered substrate of thin films, and a sealing material for electric components having an improved narrow-gap packing property. SOLUTION: The spherical metal oxide powder is a metal powder and/or a metal oxide powder heat-treated in flames, which has an average particle diameter of 0.1-2μm, a specific surface area of 2-30 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and a number of coarse particles of≥15μm of≤300 pieces/g. The metal oxide sintered compact is composed of a sintered compact of the spherical metal oxide powder. The resin molded body contains the spherical metal oxide powder.
