An apparatus for controlling a brushless DC motor is provided to cope with the number of poles of various rotor permanent magnets through one control program by reflecting the number of rotor poles of a new motor to calculation of a control unit. An apparatus for controlling a brushless DC motor includes a driving unit(114), a control unit(152), and a pole number information setting unit(154). The driving unit(114) drives the brushless DC motor. The control unit(152) sets rotor pole number information of the brushless DC motor as one variable and calculates the number of rotations of the brushless DC motor. The control unit(152) generates and provides a speed order of the brushless DC motor based on the calculated rotation number, to the driving unit(114). The pole number information setting unit(154) generates and provides the rotor pole number information of the brushless DC motor to the control unit(152) according to an operation of a user. |
