PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double-layer capacitor having an improved performance maintenance factor by reducing the amount of gas generated by the degradation of a solvent in an electrolyte in the capacitor. SOLUTION: The electric double-layer capacitor includes an activated carbon polarizable electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, and then contains an antacid made of a magnesium oxide, a composite oxide, or hydroxide in the capacitor.
