PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing apparatus which obtains an excellent user interface where entertainment property of shuffle reproduction is improved and a current reproduction mode is confirmed easily and reliably. SOLUTION: When the reproduction mode is a shuffle reproduction mode, a prescribed number of a plurality of pieces of selected candidate information are displayed so as to be replaced sequentially on a display part for a prescribed period. When the selected candidate information is displayed so as to be replaced sequentially on the display part under the shuffle reproduction mode, a user can easily and reliably recognize that the current reproduction mode is the shuffle reproduction mode by viewing such sequential display. By the sequential display, performance such as lottery using a roulette e.g. can be carried out.
