PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner in which even when flare light which is caused in optical systems facing each other across a deflector, the flare light is prevented from reaching a photoreceptor and the increase in noise of light shielding plates, and the windage loss of the deflector are suppressed, and to provide an image forming apparatus using the optical scanner. SOLUTION: The optical scanner includes a plurality of light sources, the deflector 49, an optical system, and a plurality of light shielding parts which are arranged outside the deflecting and scanning region and in the vicinity of the deflector 49 and shield the flare light from the opposite optical system. Two light shielding parts 33a and 33c out of the plurality of light shielding parts are arranged in a way that the angleθdoes not meet a relationθ=n(360/x) degrees (x: the number of deflecting mirror faces and n: an integer up to x), where the angleθis formed by connecting the nearest point 33b of the light shielding part 33a to the deflector 49, rotating center O of the deflector 49 and the nearest point 33d of the light shielding part 33c to the deflector 49, while the rotating center O of the deflector 49 when viewed from the top of the deflector 49 is made the apex.
