PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a screen size of a projection image being small even when images having different screen aspect ratios are input. SOLUTION: An image projection apparatus comprises: an image region extraction section 110 for extracting a prescribed image data region from image data for display; a region ratio calculation section 120 for calculating a region ratio between the extracted prescribed image data region and an entire display region of an LCD 30; and a zooming amount determination section 130 for determining a zooming amount of a projection lens 10 based on the calculated region ratio while using a conversion table 131. A zooming driving motor 161 is driven through a zooming driving section 160 with the determined zooming amount, and zooming is performed by rotating the projection lens 10. Even if input images are images having different screen aspect ratios, a projection image can be adjusted so as not to reduce a screen size. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
