PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing apparatus capable of displaying proper images, even when switching from special reproduction to normal reproduction. SOLUTION: The reproducing apparatus includes a reproduction means for reproducing normal reproduction image data and especially reproduced image data from many tracks on a recording tape medium; an output means for outputting reproduced especially reproduced image data; and a control means that stores the especially reproduced image data by one frame to a memory, when the number of correctly reproduced data in the reproduced especially reproduced image by one frame is smaller than a first threshold and updates the frame of the especially reproduced image data, when the number of correctly reproduced data in the reproduced especially reproduced image by one frame is smaller than a second threshold greater than the first threshold, and the output means outputs the especially reproduced image data stored in the memory as a frozen image, in response to a switching instruction in search reproduction mode to the normal reproduction mode.
