PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device and a communication method that can prevent reception sensitivity from deteriorating and make the device compact and low-cost, and maintain an excellent communication state with a transponder and prolong a communication distance. SOLUTION: The interrogator (communication device) 100 includes one antenna 110, a transmission section 120, and a reception section 130 which transmit and receive a transmission signal and a reception signal of the same frequency band simultaneously through the antenna 110, and a distributor 140 which distributes the transmission signal and reception signal. A composition unit 132 puts together an interference coupling reception signal having an interference coupling signal coupled with the reception signal by interference of the transmission signal and a cancel signal canceling the interference coupling signal of the interference coupling reception signal to generate a composite signal. A cancel signal generation section 139 generates the cancel signal so that a value of a DC voltage detected from a demodulated signal of the composite signal is within a specified range, and supplies the cancel signal to the composition unit 132.
