PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for realizing reproduction of an image with high quality without jerkiness even when a contents reproduction speed is revised. SOLUTION: A variable clock signal whose clock frequency is increased in response to an increase in a contents reproduction speed is given to one data processing section such as a data storage section for executing data processing associated with contents reproduction processing, the data storage section gives a synchronizing signal corresponding to the clock signal to a second data processing section such as a decode section, a buffer control section, an output control section, and an output display section so that the data processing of each processing section is executed by revising the speed in response to the reproduction speed. Through the configuration above, variable speed display for all frames can be attained without thinning frames at, e.g. high speed reproduction and image reproduction with high quality without jerkiness can be realized.
