PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium carrying device capable of achieving recording in flat pass even with respect to recording media other than those of regular dimension, without troubling users as much as possible. SOLUTION: In accordance with detection results of a plurality of recording medium detecting means, while controlling pressure contact and separation operation of a pinch roller with respect to a carrying roller and pressure contact and separation operation of a spur with respect to a paper delivery roller, recording media are carried in. Thus, even in the case of uniquely-shaped recording media, they can be carried in inside of the device in the appropriate state. Moreover, by independently controlling a plurality of mechanisms while effectively using one drive source, accurately controlled flat pass record can be achieved by a relatively small number of components.
