PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which can efficiently generate radical species and effectively oxidatively decompose hardly decomposable substances in a method for treating hardly decomposable substances-containing water by an electrolytic process. SOLUTION: This method electrolyzes a solution containing the hardly decomposable substances to decompose the hardly decomposable substances, uses an anode where at least the surface contacting water consists of rhodium, platinum, and iridium, and electrolyzes a solution containing sodium chloride as the solution containing the hardly decomposable substances. It is desirable that the electrolytic treatment is performed after adjusting the concentration of sodium chloride to 0.1-0.6 M, and adjusting the pH of the solution to≤7. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
