PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope system easily changed between a mode flatly illuminating an observed site and a stereoscopic illumination mode producing shadow in the observed site. SOLUTION: Two optical fiber bundles are disposed adjacent to each other at an illumination incident end and separately from each other at the distal end of an insertion tube. This stereoscopic illumination endoscope system has a light quantity adjusting means uniformly adjusting the incident light quantity of the illumination light incident on the incident ends of the respective optical fiber bundles or adjusting the incident light quantity ratio so as not to uniformize the light quantity incident on the respective incident end faces; and a drive control means driving and controlling the light quantity adjusting means. The control means regularly controls to uniformly adjust the respective incident light quantity, and to enter nonuniform incident light quantities on the fiber face without changing the whole light quantity in the stereoscopic illumination.
