<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device with low cost and improved reliability by having a transformer installed with a lamp directly and a liquid crystal device using the backlight device. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight device 80 is provided with a discharge lamp 20, a transformer 50A, a case 85 to house the transformer 50A and the discharge lamp 20, and a diffusion plate 87 arranged at an open face of the case 85. The transformer 50A and the discharge lamp 20 constitutes a lamp unit 50 integrated by jointing an electrode of the discharge lamp to a lamp jointing terminal and installing the discharge lamp 20 on the transformer 50A, and at least one lamp unit 50 is installed in the case 85, and the discharge lamp 20 and the transformer 50A are arranged on nearly the same plane. Circuit boards 26, 28 for lighting the discharge lamp 20 are arranged at the rear face of the case 85 and the transformer is mounted on the circuit board 26. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
