PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus in which an original document cover can be opened and closed readily. SOLUTION: This multifunctional apparatus 10 is provided with an original document platen 13 and the original document cover 15. In the platen 13, a contact glass plate 20 is arranged on a top surface 19, and an operation panel 45 is attached on an upper inclined surface. The front surface of the operation panel 45 constitutes an operation surface 44. The cover 15 changes its attitude between a closed posture covering the top surface 19 and an opened attitude exposing it. A curved panel 50 is fitted at the front of the original document cover 15. The front surface of the curved panel 50 continues smoothly to the operation surface 44, and moreover, approach climbing up to a slanting upper part. The upper edge 52 of the front of the cover 15 protrudes as an eave to the front side. The operation surface 44 and the curved panel 50 are colored in black. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
