PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blank paper detection unit, an image processor, and a blank paper detection method capable of executing blank paper discrimination processing with high accuracy for efficiently utilizing an arithmetic capability of an SIMD DSP. SOLUTION: The blank paper detection unit uses the SIMD arithmetic operation that divides image data by one line in the main scanning direction by the number of pixels equal to the common divisor of the number of SIMD pixels processable at once to produce small blocks, obtains a total sum of colored blocks each corresponding to the small block wherein each pixel value of all the pixels has a density of a prescribed threshold value or over, discriminates a large block, resulting from dividing the image data by several lines in the subscanning direction, to be a colored region when the total number of the colored blocks of the large block is a number of a prescribed threshold value or over, and discriminates that the image data result from reading a black paper original when there is no large block discriminated to be the colored reception.
