PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified polyvinyl alcohol having unsaturated double bonds derived from a specific monomer in a main chain of a molecule and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: This modified polyvinyl alcohol has an unsaturated double bond unit derived from a specific monomer in a main chain of the molecule, wherein Mw'/Mw, a relationship of the weight average molecular weight of a polymer component obtained by the ozonolysis treatment (Mw') to the weight average molecular weight of the modified polyvinyl alcohol (Mw), is 0.001-0.70.
