<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve detection accuracy for a human-body-exposed target in a vehicle target detection system. <P>SOLUTION: A radar apparatus repeats the detection of up to m pieces of weak reflection targets, which is located in front of a vehicle, of which the reflection intensity is not higher than a threshold th2 and is not lower than a threshold th3, and of which the distance is within a predetermined value Ds, on a cycle of T<SB>2</SB>and repeats the detection of up to n strong reflection targets, which is located in front of the vehicle and of which the reflection intensity is higher than a vehicle detection threshold th1 on a cycle of T<SB>1</SB>(T<SB>2</SB>≪T<SB>1</SB>). An image processing apparatus repeats the extraction of edges obtained by excluding road edges from an image obtained by photographing scenery in front of the vehicle. Target information is received from the radar apparatus, while edge information is received from the image processing apparatus (110, 112).
