The glass fiber cutting technique produces fibers short to very long or a mix of them and involves open and closed production systems. In general, the required fiber material, e.g. glass fiber mats, or preformed fiber packets, all alike (known as preforms) conform to the product to be produced, so that the production process is well reproducible. With local alteration of the length of the cutting surface of the involved blades, the fiber bundle at the location of a non-present cutting surface (3) is not cut. By relative displacement of the cutting surfaces or their alteration, fibers are cut of different lengths (12). The fiber bundle is fed through a guide opening so that they clamp between a pressure roller (5) and a cutting roller (4). A drive roller (2) activates the cutting roller (4) and the fiber bundle (11) is fed between the pressure and cutting rollers to the cutting point of the blades (3). Through the pressure of the blades on the rubber-type surface, the fiber bundle is cut. |
