PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder for recording images of different colors on a recording sheet in which printing is performed with excellent image quality by injecting ink of each color to an accurate position with good precision without using an unnecessary mark excepting an image being recorded on a recording medium. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder records images sequentially by carrying a recording medium such as a sheet in a predetermined carrying direction and ejecting ink drops from recording heads of a plurality of colors toward the recording medium wherein the absolute position of the recording medium is detected by means of a sesor located on the upstream side of the recording head of each color and ejection timing of ink drop of each color is adjusted thus performing printing at an accurate position.
