PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electromagnetic stirring equipment which can concurrently produce axial and circumferential stirring flows of molten metal with only a coil for generating an axial direction moving magnetic field. SOLUTION: The invented stirring equipment is equipped with a vessel which holds a conductive material in a molten state such as molten metal, a coil 3 for generating an axial direction moving magnetic field which generates lines of magnetic force outside the vessel in the axial direction of the vessel to the molten metal held in the vessel, and a strip-shaped magnetic plate 4 which is placed between the coil 3 and the vessel. The coil 3 generates electromagnetic force in the axial direction to the molten metal in the vessel, and at the same time the magnetic plate 4 placed between the coil and the vessel forms a local portion which the magnetic field does not enter, in the vessel, so that a pressure gradient in the circumferential direction is produced. The axial electromagnetic force and the circumferential pressure gradient produce stirring flows of the molten metal 1 in which axial motion and rotational motion occur concurrently.
