Disclosed is a polymer electrolyte having an ion exchange capacity of not less than 1.7 meq/g and a reduced viscosity of not less than 160 mL/g as measured at 40°C as a 1% by mass solution using at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of N,N-dimethylformamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, dimethylsulfoxide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, sulfolane and ?-butyrolactone. Also disclosed is a polymer electrolyte having an ion exchange capacity of not less than 1.7 meq/g and a reduced viscosity of not less than 160 mL/g as measured at 40°C as a 1% by mass solution using at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of N,N-dimethylformamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and dimethylsulfoxide.
