This invention relates to a process for producing tinplate comprising the steps of providing a cold rolled and annealed steel strip; cleaning and pickling the steel strip; providing the steel strip with a tin layer; applying a coating layer on the tin layer, wherein the coating layer comprise polysiloxane, wherein the polysiloxane is produced by a polymerization reaction mono-silane and/or bis-silane monomers; optionally applying an oil film on top of the coating layer. The invention further relates to tinplate produced using said process and packaging produced thereof.
