PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform main scanning direction synchronization detection for deciding the write-in position in the main scanning direction and a subscanning direction position detection for detecting the position of a light beam in the subscanning direction with high accuracy, using a single detection sensor. SOLUTION: A light beam LA on the beginning side of scanning a photoreceptor drum 16 is deflected and scanned with a rotating polygon mirror 36, passes through an fθlens 38, passes through a lens 52 and is made incident to the detecting sensor 50.
