PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable detector capable of reliably detecting burning-out of a lamp with an inexpensive configuration, and a paper sheet handling device. SOLUTION: The detector of a main treatment machine has a lamp for irradiating ultraviolet rays on a mail, a camera for detecting the visible light from the mail to be excited and emit light by the irradiation of the ultraviolet rays, a light-emitting member to be excited and emit light under the ultraviolet rays of the lamp, and a mirror for reflecting the visible light emitted from the light-emitting member to an operator.
