Disclosed is a drive unit (1) for an industrial truck, comprising a driving motor (2), at the periphery of which the electronic controller (3) is disposed. In one embodiment, the drive motor is vertically mounted and the controller is, while being situated parallel to the axis of rotation of the drive wheel (6), placed on or inside the housing of the drive motor. The controller is preferably arranged so that it is distributed over the motor axis. In another embodiment, the drive motor is horizontally mounted with regard to the drive motor, and the controller is parallelly mounted inside the housing (4) of the step-down gear system (5).
