An image editing method using a figure external shape extraction algorithm and an apparatus therefor are provided to accurately extract a figure external shape of a front/bust from a complex background image and edit an image by using the external figure external shape. An input unit(110) receives image data. A figure external shape extracting unit(120) extracts a figure external shape from the received image data. A figure external shape optimizing unit(130) searches the optimum figure external shape by using the received image data and a certain learnt figure external shape model, corrects a figure external shape model by using the searched optimum figure external shape, and optimizes the extracted figure external shape. An image editing unit(140) edits the image data by using the optimized figure external shape. An output unit(150) outputs the edited image data. |
