PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium of a helical scanning system capable of improving volume recording density and to provide a recording and reproducing device to/from the magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium 10 which has magnetic layers comprising at least one obliquely deposited metal magnetic thin film layer as information recording layers on both principal surfaces of a long non-magnetic supporting body and wherein recording and reproduction of signals are performed on recording tracks having angles oblique to a longitudinal direction is wound out to the side of a winding roll 52 provided in a drive from a uniaxial type cassette 100. In the drive, a rotary drum 60 having magnetic heads 56 and 57 for recording and reproduction and abutting on one principal surface of the magnetic recording medium 10, a rotary drum 61 having magnetic heads 58 and 59 for recording and reproduction and abutting on the other principal surface of the magnetic recording medium 10 and a guide rolls 53 to 55 are provided, and a tape travelling direction and rotational directions of respective rotary drums 60 and 61 are same.
