<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently discriminate an object by a pattern matching method. <P>SOLUTION: This object discrimination device stores a plurality of templates for each distance to an object to be discriminated. Then, when detecting the object to be discriminated from an image by a background difference method or a conspicuous calculation method, the object discrimination device detects the distance to the object, and selects the template corresponding to the distance.
