The method involves dividing each image received in digital image form into groups of blocks to form a current image. A current compression coefficient value is determined, and used for initial processing. As the image processing is performed, the compression coefficient is corrected by a generated correction coefficient. The correction coefficient is a function of the difference between the number of bits produced by the preceding groups of block of codes and an estimate of the total number of bits.
