PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser apparatus which can control an effect due to a returning light and can improve a spectral quality and an optical module using it. SOLUTION: A metal plate 70 which has an opening 71 of a shape fitted to a light emitting area 51A is located between a lens 60 and a semiconductor laser 50. A part of the returning light FI passing through the lense 60 passes through the opening 71, and the other composition is reflected by the metal plate 70. The distance D between the metal plate 70 and the semiconductor laser 50 is preferred to be very little: 10μm to 100μm. Moreover, a reflectance adjusting film has an antireflection film sized to be fitted to the light emitting area 51A and a high reflection film in the area other than the antireflection film, and may be located on the surface of the semiconductor laser 50 side of the lens 60.
