PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner which accomplishes cleaning work under a clean environment by sucking floating dust without useless energy. SOLUTION: The cleaner is provided with its body 1 containing a dust collection part 4 and an electric blower 2 and a suction nozzle 9 connected to the cleaner body 1. The cleaner body 1 is provided with a dust detection means 15 for detecting floating dust, the second air suction path 12 having a shutter part 14 to be opened or closed by the output signal of the dust detection means 15 and a dust collection filter 13. As a result, any floating dust during the cleaning is detected by the dust detection means 15 to make the shutter part 14 open so that the dust is automatically sucked with the second air suction path 12, thereby enabling the removal of the dust with the dust collection filter 14.
