A cooker comprises a heating unit for heating an object to be heated, an input unit for allowing the user to select application/nonapllication of power to the heating unit, a control unit for controlling the application of power to the heating unit according to the signal from the input unit, a reproducing method judging unit for judging the sound reproducing method from either the signal from the control unit or the signal from the input unit, and a speech synthesis unit for outputting sound according to the signal from the reproducing method judging unit. If a sound is being generated at present or when sound is to be generated immediately, the reproducing method judging unit selects one of reproducing methods when it receives a signal to generate sound from either the input unit or the control unit. The sound is either a speech or a warning sound.
