摘要 The invention relates to methods for increasing the strength of workpieces and can be used for producing different articles in aircraft, mechanical and machine tool engineering and for producing high-strength tools. The inventive method consists in applying a strengthening layer made of a material exhibiting heavy thermionic properties. Such materials are embodied in the form of a cerium a Ce and/or the heavy thermionic compositions thereof. The cerium heavy thermionic compositions have a covalence degree in the atom chemical bond ranging from 0.3 to 0.7 and the energy gap of 0<?E <3 eV. Such systems are embodied, in particular, in the form of compounds of cerium with at least one element of the IIIA-VIA groups of the periodical system and/or with at least one transition metal provided with a filled or close to be filled d-shell. Said invention makes it possible to strengthen metal articles exposed to important mechanical and thermal loads and operating under conditions causing a product erosion and corrosion
