PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an organic EL device without damaging sealing property and free from giving rise to degradation of production efficiency. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the organic EL device S, a large sealing substrate 11 is bonded with an adhesive to a large element substrate 10 for plural taking equipped with a plurality of element areas 1, and then, is cut into pieces for each element area 1. The method comprises a process of forming concave parts 5 corresponding to ineffective areas fitted at an outer periphery of the element area 1 on an inner face of the large sealing substrate 11, and at the same time, forming scribe lines 7a along side faces of the concave parts 5 on an outer face of the large sealing substrate 11, a process of arranging an adhesive 9 at given positions of the large element substrate 10 and/or the large sealing substrate 11, a process of bonding the large element substrate 10 and the large sealing substrate 11 with the adhesive 9, and a process of scribing the large sealing substrate 11 along the scribe lines 7a.
