PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system in which an operating mode of the navigation system is set according to road attributes, and the operating mode is properly selected even if the road attributes varies with sections separated with two continuous guidance point nodes. SOLUTION: The navigation system 10 comprises: a section attribute judging means 213 detecting the variation in the section separated with two continuous guidance point nodes and determining the road attribute in the section, based on the road attribute of the outlet link of the passed guidance point node and the inlet link of the next guidance point node; a mode selecting means 214 selecting the operating mode matched with the road attributes of the section based on the road attribute determined by the section attribute judging means 213; and a mode control means 221 controlling the operating mode of the navigation system 10 using the mode selected by the mode selecting means 214.
