PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire detection method and an apparatus utilizing a fiber-optic thermometer capable of correctly detecting the origin position of a fire in two dimensions, and withstanding a high-temperature atmosphere. SOLUTION: A sensor 2 of a fiber-optic thermometer is laid to be a rectangle on the ceiling surface 4 of a room. A signal processing apparatus 3 obtains the intersection of a straight line (L1) connecting peaks of temperature distribution by facing sensors 2A and 2B, and a straight line (L2) that connects the peaks of temperature distribution by facing sensors 2C and 2D, and detects the intersection as the fire origin position.
