PULSED LASER APPARATUS AND METHOD OF USE

A pulsed laser system adapted to generate optical pulses in response to receiving a command from a user-operated computer (350) . The pulsed laser system includes a pump source (318) adapted to generate a pump signal (342) ; a microcontroller (312) adapted to receive a burst execution command (352) from the computer, generate a pulse modulating signal (330) in accordance with the burst execution command, and generate a pump control signal (340) to control the pump source in generating the pump signal in accordance with the burst execution command; and an optics modulator module (322) adapted to generate the optical pulses (348) in response to the pump signal and the pulse modulating signal. The microcontroller performs "real-time" control of the optical pulses in accordance with the burst execution command received from the user-operated computer. Having the microcontroller perform the "real-time" control effectively isolates the output from errors, noise, and interference that may creep in via the command input .
