PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combution process capable of burning carbon so moderately as to reduce extrusion resistance, in the combustion process for removal of deposit carbon in a coke carbonization chamber, without damaging sealing performance of a brick lining region, without causing a damage such as spalling, without causing inhibitation of workability and productivity under an adverse environment, and without requiring storage of a great deal of data even if on a furnace wall with brick failure. SOLUTION: This process comprises the combustion process for the removal of deposited carbon in the coke oven carbonization chamber by inserting a spray nozzle in the chamber and spraying a gas containing oxygene, wherein a correlation between a CO<SB>2</SB>concentration in a combustion exhaust gas and an extrusion resistance value upon a next extrusion as well as CO<SB>2</SB>concentration = X(%) when the extrusion resistance value becomes minimum are checked beforehand, and then when the CO<SB>2</SB>concentration in the combustion exhaust gas is lower than X(%), a blowing time of the gas is shortened from a next carbon burning time and its concentration is higher than X(%), the blowing time is prolonged from a next carbon burning.
