Information providing unit installed in a vehicle for receiving digital transmissions

Apparatus has a receiver for receiving digital transmissions. An extractor extracts higher quality transmissions which can only be received if the electric field strength is high and low quality digital transmissions which can be received even when the filed strength is low. A switch outputs the high or low quality transmissions which should be extracted. A detector (11) detects that the vehicle should change direction. A controller controls the switch to determine a start point from the switch as the low quality transmission when the detector determines tat the vehicle is to change direction.
