<p>The elevator system has an elevator car, a drive belt sheave, and at least one flat-belt-like carrying device driven by the drive sheave, for carrying and moving the elevator car. The running surface of the drive sheave, against which the flat-belt-like carrying device lies is coated with a friction-reducing coating, such as chrome, or its surface is treated to reduce friction, e.g. by providing spherical microstructures.
