An apparatus for producing a ground contaminant barrier includes a pipe 15 having arms 15A, 15B for supplying liquid under pressure. Supply pipes 16 and 17 allow abrasive material to be introduced into the liquid near the bottom of the apparatus and improves radial penetration of the liquid. A nozzle (fig 1) is also disclosed for use with the apparatus and includes a tapered body 20 having an inlet portion larger than an outlet portion. The outlet portion includes a number of tapered outlets 22A for ejecting fluid laterally from the nozzle.
