In one aspect, a vehicle, such as an aircraft includes a body having an exterior surface 14 and a protrusion, such as an anti-collision light 16 extending outward from the surface. The vehicle further includes a fairing 18 mounted on the surface 14 directly adjacent and behind the protrusion. The fairing has a forward end 22, an aft end 24 opposite the forward end, and opposing sides 26 extending between the forward end and the aft end. The opposing sides become progressively closer together from the forward end to the aft end so that the fairing has a tapered shape. The fairing may include a transparent cover 20, a trim 68, and a mount 48 having a base 56 and flanges 58 to which the trim and cover sides may be secured via screws 66. The flanges may differ in height and the base may be inclined or tapered in thickness for mounting on a canted surface of the vehicle. Also claimed individually are a fairing having a mount and a cover with a tapered shape, and a method of assembling a fairing having a mount, a cover and a trim. |
