A calendar finish fast to washing is fixed on a fabric by means of a formaldehyde-urea or thiourea resin, if desired in combination with sizing materials and/or softening materials, dyestuffs, dulling and filling materials. The resin may be applied to the fabric by printing, and may be hardened by the caldender treatment, repeated if necessary. Calendering effects mentioned are stamping, gloss, moire, wave, and beetle effects. Impregnation with resin may be effected after calendering, the resin being applied in a non-aqueous solvent. In examples: (1) A mixed cotton and artificial silk fabric is bleached, dyed, and impregnated with a 20 per cent aqueous solution of carbamide resin containing 0,5 per cent tartaric acid, the fabric is slightly dried and passed through a stamping calender heated to 150 DEG C.; the fabric is then heated to 110 DEG C. for 5--10 mins. (2) A mousseline fabric prepared as in example 1 is subjected to a hot p calender treatment whilst moist to obtain a gloss effect. (3) A cotton fabric is impregnated with a 25 per cent solution of dimethylol - urea, slightly dried, and repeatedly passed through a hot calender roller until hardening is completed. The treated fabrics are subsequently soaped, washed, and dried. |
