An apparatus and a method for correcting image brightness and a recording medium recording a program for executing the same are provided to smooth a dynamic range of an image and secure the contrast of the image. An image input unit(410) receives an image. A correction tilt selecting unit(420) selects a tilt of a correction curve corresponding to an object pixel for correcting brightness among pixels of the image. A correction performing unit(430) converts the original brightness of the object pixel into correction brightness according to the correction curve having the selected tilt. An image output unit(440) outputs an image for allowing the object pixel to have the correction brightness by the correction performing unit(430). In the correction curve, the contrast of the corresponding correction brightness is enhanced when the original brightness is lower than certain brightness, and the contrast of the corresponding correction brightness is reduced when the original brightness is higher than the certain brightness.
