Recovery of zinc in sulfate form, from zinc oxidation residues with a high zinc content, involves (a) leaching the residues with acid to give a solution with a high zinc sulfate content and (b) converting the solution into an electrolyte suitable for electrolytic production of zinc by purification by organic solvent extraction.
