PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provided an auxiliary chamber type internal combustion engine capable of compressing fuel or a fresh air-fuel mixture in a sub-combustion chamber with an inexpensive and compact structure. SOLUTION: This auxiliary chamber type internal combustion engine 1 has a main combustion chamber 63, a sub-combustion chamber 61 and a rotor 81. The sub-combustion chamber 61 is adjacent to the main combustion chamber 63. The rotor 81 rotates in the sub-combustion chamber 61. The sub-combustion chamber 61 has a first space 61a. The first space 61a is surrounded by a first surface 62a and a first side surface 81a of the rotor 81, The rotor 81 rotates, and changes the volume of the first space 61a.
